About

I started this blog as a way of encouraging my family to cook more.  I love cooking and that passion definitely came from my parents.  My mother has always been the family baker.  She would cook cakes for every birthday, brunches for sundays, and cookies just to have some around.  She has her recipes down pat.  I remember calling her one time while making chocolate cake, and, with just my brief description of the batter, she knew exactly what I needed to do.  From my father, I learned how to experiment in the kitchen.  I learned that with a few basic techniques and a good sense of taste you can create delicious dishes.  He is always the one to try new things and create something different.  He cooks by taste rather than recipes and practice.

By the time I was in high school, I cooked at every opportunity I got.  Study session at my house always came with a plate of homemade cookies, during holidays I took over the kitchen, and even just normal weeknight dinners became fun to make.  But somehow my brothers were never as interested in cooking.  (Though I don't think they minded my cooking as long as I didn't make anything too weird.)  But once I left for college, they only got my cooking on my breaks when I came back home.  I hoped at least one of my brothers would take on my role and cook but that didn't seem to happen.  Caleb is a picky enough eater that he is content to stick with just the standard family fare.  And Noah, while cooking up the occasional batch of muffins or cookies, avoided cooking dinners.

This is an attempt to share my passion for cooking with my family and provide some motivation for them to cook.  This summer, since school is not in session, we all have more time to cook.  It is the perfect time to encourage my family to cook more delicious food and experiment to create new things.
